Start saving your appetite, because the Treme Creole Gumbo Festival is back Nov. 14 and 15 — and it’s tastier than ever.  The fest will dish out all of your favorite types of gumbo while serenading you with the finest collection of jazz, R&B, and brass music in the city. Presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, The Treme Creole Gumbo Festival is held at Congo Square in Armstrong Park on North Rampart Street opposite the French Quarter. Take a look at what you can expect from this free (!) festival.

Shrimp and Okra Gumbo

This year’s music lineup celebrates the roots and legacy of the New Orleans brass band tradition. In addition to the city’s most popular contemporary groups- including  Rebirth, Hot 8, To Be Continued, Pinettes and Lagniappe Brass Bands – they’re also shining a spotlight on admired legacies featuring the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band, the Original Hurricane Band, the Treme Brass Band, and many more. Festival goers will also enjoy special performances by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s brass band and the winners of the foundation’s annual “Class Got Brass?” high school band competition, plus a few other groups new to the jazz scene. Between sets, stop by the Arts Market (complete with Kids Area) for some colorful, uniquely creative handmade crafts along with interactive workshops led by local artists.

The Gumbo

While the brass music treats your ears, indulge in another New Orleans classic: gumbo. Twelve vendors will be serving up a smorgasbord of New Orleans’ signature dish in a variety of styles (vegan included). Gumbo z’Herbes, shrimp and oyster, chicken and andouille, Creole filé, dark roux – all of these and more will be served in their expanded food court. For those who can’t choose just one, sampling size portions will be available to mix and match until you find your favorite.

Bienville House is just a 15-minute walk from the park, providing our guests with a uniquely New Orleans way to spend their afternoon this weekend. Book now to enjoy Treme Creole Gumbo Fest in addition to all the excitement of the French Quarter.
